Professional Standards
Our practitioners are expected to comply with the rules and ethical standards of the professional body under which they are registered.
HPCSA
Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) regulates health professions such as psychologists and sets ethical and professional conduct standards.
SACSSP
South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) regulates social workers and related social service professions and governs professional conduct.
Headroom also accepts practitioners registered with other recognised professional bodies, provided the body has and enforces clear codes of ethics and conduct, and requires ongoing CPD as a condition of maintaining active registration.
Therapy And Therapist Terminology
Headroom sometimes uses “therapy” and “therapist” as broad, commonly understood terms for mental health and psychosocial support. This does not mean that every practitioner is a psychologist or psychotherapist, or that every service constitutes psychotherapy, psychological assessment, diagnosis or treatment.
Each practitioner’s profile identifies their professional title, registration and services. Practitioners may provide services only within their applicable professional scope, competence, qualifications and legal authority. General terminology used by Headroom does not alter or expand these.
Professional terminology, protected titles, registration requirements and regulated activities may differ between professions and jurisdictions. A term used generally on Headroom should not be interpreted as having the same professional, regulatory or legal meaning in every country or for every practitioner category.
When deciding whether a service is suitable, clients should consider their own location, the practitioner’s location and the professional information provided on the practitioner’s profile.
Headroom aims to present practitioner information accurately and transparently. Any information believed to be unclear, outdated or inaccurate may be reported to Headroom using the contact details provided on this website.
