https://headroom.co.za/therapist/priscilla-abrahams/ I draw on several complementary approaches and adapt them according to what emerges during the work. I use strengths-based and positive psychology principles to identify existing abilities, resources and possibilities for growth, while Transactional Analysis helps me explore patterns in communication, relationships and responses. I use CBT-based and trauma-focused cognitive behavioural techniques where appropriate to help clients recognize connections between thoughts, emotions and behaviour and develop more helpful ways of responding. Motivational Interviewing guides my work when clients are considering change, allowing their own goals and readiness to shape the process. Through a narrative approach, I help clients examine the meaning they attach to their experiences and identify alternative perspectives. Where appropriate and welcomed by the client, I integrate faith-based principles into the work. Throughout, I involve clients in identifying goals, selecting practical strategies and reviewing progress.
“ People grow at their own pace and I respect that. People have the ability to bounce back. Therefore I believe growth is timeless.
“ The heights and depths that great men reached, were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept were toiling bravely through the night. R Kipling
“ I might not have been where you are today, but I am trained to listen without judgment. We all need that from time to time.
“ Everyone goes through a dip at some point in their lives. We need support to get through it. Reaching out for help takes courage. My goal is to listen with empathy. Everything else follows...
“ On a scale of 1 (very bad) to 10 (excellent) where are you in all the dimensions of your life? Emotional, Physical, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual, Occupational, Financial, Environmental. Do we need to talk?

With more than 25 years of professional experience, I have dedicated my career to supporting people through life's challenges, strengthening families, promoting workplace wellbeing and helping communities build healthier, more resilient lives. My work across social work, counselling, therapeutic interventions, employee assistance, rehabilitation and community development has taught me that behind every challenge is a person with a story, a need to be understood and the potential to move forward. I believe that meaningful support begins with listening without judgement, recognizing individual strengths and working collaboratively towards practical, sustainable change. As a social worker, counsellor and therapist, I support individuals facing emotional distress, trauma, grief, relationship and family difficulties, workplace stress, substance-use concerns and gambling-related challenges. My approach is grounded in professional knowledge, therapeutic practice and lived understanding, with a focus on helping people make sense of their experiences, develop healthier coping strategies and regain a sense of direction. Through employee assistance and workplace wellness services, I help employees navigate personal and professional challenges that may affect their wellbeing, relationships and work performance. I also work with organizations to address psychosocial concerns, strengthen employee support, facilitate group interventions and contribute to healthier, more supportive working environments. My community wellness work includes dementia awareness, caregiver support, psychoeducation, outreach and programs that empower individuals and families who may have limited access to information or support. I am particularly mindful of the emotional demands placed on caregivers and the importance of creating awareness, reducing stigma and helping people feel less alone in their responsibilities. My professional experience includes rehabilitation, behavioural interventions, supervision, program development, community engagement and multidisciplinary collaboration. These experiences have strengthened my ability to understand people within their broader family, workplace and social environments, while balancing compassion with practical problem-solving. I draw on a range of counselling and therapeutic approaches, including strengths-based practice, Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, trauma-focused interventions, Transactional Analysis, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy and faith-integrated practice where appropriate to the person's needs and preferences. Beyond professional qualifications and experience, I value the lessons that come from listening to people's stories and witnessing their resilience. I recognize that every person’s journey is different and that seeking support can take courage. My role is not to judge or dictate how someone should live, but to provide a respectful, supportive space in which challenges can be explored, strengths recognized and possibilities for change developed. My commitment is to walk alongside individuals, families, employees and organizations with understanding, integrity and compassion, helping them navigate challenges, build resilience and move towards meaningful wellbeing. You do not have to face every challenge alone. Support can be the beginning of a different way forward. I invite you to connect with me to explore how counselling, employee wellness or community-based support may assist you or your organization. ‹‹‹
