You are not logged in. Please login to share your experience with this professional.At the time, I was very wrapped up in the relationship and deeply attached, so when my partner wanted to stop seeing Piet and go elsewhere, I followed his lead.
Now that the relationship has ended, I’m having to navigate the aftermath—untangling how my sense of reality became distorted, coping with the confusing attachment that can still linger after abuse, and rebuilding my sense of identity. It actually took the person who was abusing me to end the relationship for me to fully confront the fact that I had accepted treatment I should never have tolerated and felt unable to leave.
As the rose-tinted glasses have slowly come off, Piet has been a compassionate and steady voice of reason throughout this process. His perspective has helped me begin to make sense of what happened and start rebuilding clarity and self-trust.
He has been patient in guiding me to tackle the big issues I am facing and checks in with me between sessions if he knows I am struggling. He challenges me when I get stuck in old patterns, helped me see where I over-function, carry guilt and shame that keeps me stuck, and where I need to grow and build my self confidence. He holds space for me, but also holds me accountable for my actions.
I am still a work in process, and I still have many ‘ah ha’ moments, but I am already much more conscious of where and how I need to make changes. I am very grateful for Dr. Piet’s steady presence in my life and the way he considers the importance and impact of my wider group of friends and family and all the intertwining relationships that make up a life.
It has been a life-changing experience – thank you!
The changes have been massive.
I have never given a thought to do therapy but now I get excited to do sessions.
I grew up learning that showing emotions make you weak, that perception has totally changed.
I am extremely proud of the person I am becoming as a result of these sessions.
