https://headroom.co.za/user/matthew-mackay/ I draw primarily on person-centred and interpersonal approaches, adapting my work to what each client needs at a particular point in the counselling process. I aim to create a space where clients can explore their experiences openly and develop a clearer understanding of their thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour. I pay particular attention to the ways relationships and significant life experiences may influence how a person feels and responds in the present. I work collaboratively with clients, regularly checking in about what feels most useful and allowing their goals and priorities to guide the direction of our work. Depending on what emerges, I may use reflection, gentle questioning, exploration of relationship patterns and practical strategies to support greater awareness and constructive change. This approach allows us to build on the client’s own insight and strengths while working towards meaningful, sustainable progress.
“ I have learned that every person is unique and have their own personal strengths and abilities. Every situation and encounter with a person is unique and therefore it is important to use different approaches when working with clients

I hold a BA Honours Degree in Psychology and am a registered Specialist Wellness Counsellor with the ASCHP (Association for Supportive Counsellors and Holistic Practitioners). I have always been fascinated by people, their emotions, and the experiences that shape their lives. My counselling approach is empathetic, collaborative, and grounded in creating a safe, non-judgemental space. I work with clients of all ages, with a particular interest in adolescents and adults. I recognise that every individual’s life journey is unique, and I aim to meet you exactly where you are, offering support that is respectful, genuine, and tailored to your needs. I have many years of counselling experience supporting people through depression, anxiety, trauma, general life stress, relationship difficulties, and school-related challenges. My focus is on empowering clients with practical tools and insight to navigate life’s obstacles and to help you become an active agent of positive change in your own life. If you are seeking support for yourself or someone close to you, I am here to walk that journey with you. I look forward to the opportunity to work together. ‹‹‹
