My name is Ymke Hemminga (pronounced Imke)
As a wellness counsellor I use an integrated approach to helping my clients, which is firmly rooted in Person Centred Theory and it’s key wisdom’s of Empathy, Congruence and Unconditional Positive Regard. Using additional approaches such as Narrative- or Solution Focused Brief Therapy when needed, and helpful to the client I have in front of me. I am passionate about discovering, highlighting, or dusting off strengths and talents in my clients encouraging them to embrace life and all it’s expected and unexpected challenges in a more confident, pro-active and resilient way.
In addition to my degree I am a Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T) instructor, an Advanced Tree of Life practitioner, and I have obtained a certificate in Traumatic Incident Reduction (T.I.R.)

From divorce crisis to wholeness
Ymke has been nothing short of a lifesaver during the most difficult and transformative period of my life. Deciding to get a divorce is an overwhelming and heartbreaking decision. It brings with it layers of emotions—fear, sadness, doubt, and at times, hopelessness. I was drowning in these feelings, unsure of how to navigate the process or even how to reclaim who I once was. But from the very first session, she made me feel seen and understood. She didn’t just guide me through the process of separation; she helped me reconnect with myself in ways I didn’t think were possible.
Her ability to create a space where I felt safe and free from judgment was invaluable. It wasn’t just about talking through my problems; it was about rediscovering my worth, my identity, and my strength. With her support, I moved from being heavily reliant on anxiety medication, feeling like I couldn’t cope without it, to gradually being able to wean off the meds altogether. She helped me manage my anxiety, not just with tools and techniques, but by helping me rebuild my inner resilience.
It truly feels like she’s on my side, always rooting for me to succeed, and offering genuine care and compassion. She isn’t just my therapist—she’s someone I now consider a friend. Our conversations aren’t just about struggles; I can now share my successes, my milestones, and the little victories I’ve worked hard to achieve. And through it all, she’s there, offering support, celebrating my progress, and helping me stay grounded.
I cannot express enough how much Ymke has meant to me throughout this journey. She’s helped me go from feeling completely broken to feeling empowered and whole again. She’s amazing in every sense of the word, and I am incredibly grateful for her presence in my life.

I’m the best version of myself
I started my seasons with Yimke 2 years ago and I was in a really in a dark place and I would say she really helped me find the light . And since then I’ve never looked back , she’s fantastic at what she does and I do appreciate how attentive and understanding she is I am really grateful for the help I’ve received and I still practice some of the things she has shared with me
The emotional progress I’ve made
My first sessions with Ymke started a year and a half ago and my main concern at the time was anxiety and my erratic behaviour as a result of feeling anxious. Ymke was able to validate my feelings but in a way that was not enabling. She provided me with coping mechanisms which I still use to this day and provided me with indispensable insight that has made me cope better with anxiety. Recently, I was facing an extremely difficult time in my relationship and because of my past experience with Ymke, I made contact with her and she was available to see me the next day. I had 5 weekly sessions with her and I would’ve never had the courage to do the emotional labour needed to heal and move on without my sessions with Ymke. The emotional progress I’ve made is so valuable to me and I don’t ever want to lose it. Ymke is empathetic, realistic, warm and is able to make you view life and yourself in a positive way, even when you’re going through it. Some sessions made me realize uncomfortable truths but I’m forever grateful to Ymke for opening me up to that. This is everyone’s sign to book a session with Ymke, you won’ regret it !

To all those on their path of healing, I can truly say that the journey I’ve been on would not have been possible without a sound and patient ear. Ymke came into my life right when I needed her. I’m currently in my last year of uni, and my anxiety was taking me down. Ymke not only helped me to find inner acceptance and validation, but she encouraged me to be loving and patient with myself. Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, I know Ymke will be there to help me breathe. Ymke’s comforting spirit is energising, and I always leave ready to take on the next day, week, or challenge. When I contacted Ymke, I was just floating through life–without purpose, or direction in hindsight. She assisted me to see my life objectively and really just fully accept myself. Since I have been with her, my life has really turned around on all levels. She was able to get me to open up despite my natural standoffish disposition.
