Description

A mental health toolbox is a personalized collection of strategies, resources, and practices designed to support emotional well-being and resilience in challenging times. Just as a physical toolbox equips you with tools to handle repairs, a mental health toolbox provides practical techniques for managing stress, regulating emotions, and fostering mental clarity. It may include mindfulness exercises, coping strategies, access to professional support, and self-care routines tailored to individual needs. Having this toolbox is essential because life’s uncertainties and pressures can impact mental health, and being prepared with effective tools ensures a proactive approach to maintaining balance and thriving amidst adversity.

About The Speaker

  • Lijahne Beetge

    Clinical Psychologist Therapist

I hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Stellenbosch, where I trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities. Over time, I have developed a strong passion for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which remain central to my practice. My professional journey has been shaped by diverse experiences, including an internship at Sterkfontein Hospital and a community service year with the Department of Defence. I currently work full-time in the NGO sector, managing care teams across multiple facilities and supporting clients with geriatric, intellectual, physical, and mental health challenges. These roles have strengthened my commitment to holistic, person-centered care, guided by the timeless truth that “the soul is healed when it is heard.” I also embrace the understanding that every person is a whole world in themselves — a perspective that informs the way I listen, support, and care, and underscores my dedication to inclusive, respectful practice across diverse cultural and faith backgrounds. Alongside my NGO work, I run a part-time private practice with a focus on CBT, assisting clients with depression, anxiety, substance use, work-life balance, and relationship challenges. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, recognising the strength and dignity inherent in each person and the importance of addressing body, mind, and spirit in the therapeutic process. My primary focus is adult therapy, particularly helping individuals navigate the everyday challenges of life. I see therapy as a collaborative process, where we work together to explore your concerns and develop practical strategies for managing stress and enhancing well-being. I am committed to supporting you on your journey toward improved mental health and a more fulfilling, balanced life.

Welcome to my corner of the web! I'm CJ Nel, a passionate and dedicated HPCSA Registered Counsellor with a deep commitment to mental health and well-being. Assisting individuals through their unique journeys towards healing and growth is not just a profession for me; it's a calling that I cherish every step of the way. A calling that I believe is reflected in having received my qualification Cum Laude and having passed the HPCSA Board exam with 90%. My journey in counselling took a pivotal turn during my practical training at Headway Gauteng, where I had the privilege of supporting survivors of brain injuries, along with their families, caregivers, and support systems. This experience profoundly shaped my approach to counselling, emphasising empathy, understanding, and a holistic perspective. I believe in an integrative approach to counselling, where the counselling space adapts to meet your specific needs as we navigate the counselling journey together. Whether you're grappling with grief, trauma, identity challenges, relational challenges, life transitions, or general mental health concerns, my goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where healing, recovery, self-discovery and growth can flourish. My professional experience spans across various settings, including the corporate Employee Assistance Program (EAP) realm, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Private Practice. This diversity has equipped me with a keen understanding of the complexities surrounding mental health and interpersonal dynamics. Continuous learning is a cornerstone of my practice. I am dedicated to staying abreast of the latest developments in counselling techniques, therapeutic modalities, and ethical standards. By constantly refining my skills and knowledge, I ensure that my services remain current, effective, and aligned with the highest ethical standards. Thank you for considering me as a partner on your journey towards mental health and well-being.
