https://headroom.co.za/user/bibi-farnham/ My counselling approach is person-centred, strengths-based and grounded in Positive Psychology. I create a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where people feel heard, respected and supported. Through active listening, reflective questioning and guided self-exploration, I help clients gain greater self-awareness, recognise their strengths, build resilience and explore new perspectives. I believe every person and situation is unique, so I adapt my approach to the individual rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution. Together, we identify challenges, explore possibilities and develop practical, realistic steps towards greater wellbeing and balance. My role is not to provide all the answers, but to help people discover their own strengths, choices and capacity for meaningful change. See the person. Hear their story. Recognise their strengths. Support meaningful change.
“ My counselling approach is grounded in empathy, respect, accountability and the belief that meaningful change becomes possible when people feel safe enough to be honest with themselves. During my experience counselling in a prison environment, I worked with individuals convicted of serious sexual offences. Over a structured 12-week programme, my role was not to judge or excuse their behaviour, but to create a safe, boundaried space where they could begin confronting difficult truths about themselves and take responsibility for their actions. I focused on building trust while maintaining clear professional boundaries. Through consistent questioning, reflection and strengths-based counselling, I encouraged participants to move beyond denial and defensiveness and towards greater self-awareness and personal accountability. One of the most meaningful outcomes was seeing individuals reach a point where they were able to acknowledge responsibility and, for the first time, express a genuine willingness to work on themselves and their behaviour. That experience shaped the counsellor I am today. It taught me that we do not have to approve of someone's behaviour to recognise their humanity and capacity for change. I now bring that same non-judgmental, person-centred and Positive Psychology approach to my work with seafarers. I meet people where they are, build trust, listen to understand, identify their strengths and challenges, and support them in taking ownership of the changes they want to make. My role is not to fix people, but to empower them to recognise that change is possible and help them find their own path towards it.
“ “The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.” Coco Chanel
“ “I believe every person has the capacity for meaningful change when they feel truly seen, heard and supported without judgement.” “See the person. Hear their story. Believe in their potential. Support meaningful change.”
“ “What would change in your life if you gave your wellbeing the same care and attention you give to everyone and everything else?”

Hello, I’m Bibi. I believe that sometimes we simply need a safe space to pause, be heard, reconnect with ourselves and find a healthier way forward. With more than 25 years of experience in counselling, coaching, training and personal development, combined with eight years of living and working onboard cruise ships, I bring both professional expertise and real-world experience to my work. My time at sea has given me a unique understanding of the realities seafarers face. Long working hours, multicultural environments, extended periods away from family, relationship pressures, fatigue and living where you work can all affect emotional and personal wellbeing. I understand these challenges not only as a counsellor, but because I have lived the shipboard experience myself. My approach is grounded in Positive Psychology and person-centred, strengths-based wellness counselling. I focus not only on what is difficult, but also on what is strong. Together, we explore your strengths, resilience, relationships, choices and the practical changes that can help you create greater balance and wellbeing. Depending on your individual needs, I may incorporate EFT/Tapping, creative and art-based approaches, reflective techniques, elements from my years as a Journey Practitioner, and my experience as an accredited Relationship Coach. Throughout my career, I have worked with people from remarkably diverse backgrounds and in challenging circumstances. This includes counselling male offenders convicted of sexual offences within correctional services, supporting individuals experiencing addiction and eating-related challenges, and contributing to humanitarian initiatives supporting vulnerable communities. These experiences reinforced one of my strongest beliefs: Every person has a story, and meaningful change becomes possible when people feel seen, heard and supported without judgement. Beyond counselling, I am an experienced international trainer, facilitator and presenter, having worked with individuals, organisations and groups across more than 30 countries. My style combines warmth, energy, authenticity and directness while remaining sensitive to the individual and their needs. I am also the author of Take Off Your Mask, reflecting my passion for helping people look beyond the roles they play, reconnect with who they truly are and recognise their potential. Whether you are a seafarer searching for balance, an individual navigating change, or a couple wanting to reconnect, my role is not to fix you or tell you how to live your life. I am here to see the person, hear the story, recognise the strengths, and support meaningful change. ‹‹‹
