Sometimes we really just need someone to talk to – without any fear of having our vulnerabilities turned against us or of feeling judged. A counsellor is a neutral and supportive person who won’t go gossiping about you and won’t kick you when you’re feeling down.
I’m a registered TRE provider, so I understand the effects of trauma on the body and the mind. I use this knowledge in my counselling. All of us have experienced trauma to some extent, and it may be affecting you more than you realise.
One of my interests is helping people to quit smoking. I used to smoke, and I understand the struggle from within. I have also come to understand the physiological reasons why it is so hard to quit and how we can make the transition to being a non-smoker as easy as possible. From there, my interest in other forms of addiction also developed, including the emotional issues that lie beneath process addiction. When it comes to alcoholism, I have seen people close to me recover from this problem, but I don’t specialise in treating it.
Another interest is how people approach death, whether it appears far off or drawing near. Again, sometimes what we need most is a gentle and caring heart, someone who is able to truly hear what we are going through and give us support as we move forward in the best way we can.
